How I transformed from ‘junk food junkie’ to ‘health guy?’
Yes, I was hooked on processed foods, sugar, salty snacks, fast food, fried food and the like.
Pizza, chips (particularly crab chips), ice cream, burgers, fries, milkshakes and more used to be my go to. Ok this goes back to my 20’s (not that long ago, right?).
Frankly, I truly felt addicted to these foods, particularly processed sugar, but salty snacks too.
How did I go from back then to where I am today?
Back story: I was on a backpacking trip in Europe in my 20’s and on a 3 day train ride from the south of Spain (Seville) to Amsterdam.
I met a few friends along the journey and met up with a few guys from Canada who I made the three day train ride with.
Interesting guys who had a story of their own from Morocco a few days prior (but that’s a conversation for another time).
Back to the story…one of the guys suggested I read a nutrition/weight loss book. The book was called Fit For Life.
While I don’t recommend the book at this point due to a few important factual errors in the book, it got me thinking and started me on my journey towards a healthier version of me.
Lot’s slips and challenges over the years with food and fitness, but I continued to strive to get healthier, achieve and maintain a healthy weight and continuously improve.
I ultimately decided a few years after my Europe trip to go back to school and got my Master’s Degree in Nutrition, became a Registered Dietitian, as well as a Certified Personal Trainer.
Fast forward to today…
Been practicing as an RD/fitness coach for many years now, lost and maintained a 35 lb weight loss from that time and feeling pretty darn good at age 54, with nutrition, running, weight lifting, and pickleball and tennis.
Goal? Let’s keep this going getting fitter, stronger, healthier every decade!
Let’s strive to stay healthy and as a father of 3 young kids, to be around for the important stuff .
Have an healthy day!
