Eat more whole, unprocessed foods.

Whole fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, etc.  Limit processed foods like flour products, sugar products and the like.

It takes your body more energy to break down whole foods than processed foods.

This is TEF or thermic effect of food, the energy required to digest a food, goes up with whole foods.

It makes sense. When you process a food, you essentially start part of the digestion process requiring less work for the body.
